About this project

Project Overview

This pressure treated fence in Venus, TX wraps 250 linear feet around a residential property just off FM 157, turning
an open lot into a fully enclosed backyard. At 6 feet tall with pickets set side by side, there is no line of sight through it
from any angle — and at 250 feet, it is one of the longest single-material runs we have built in Ellis and Johnson
County this year.
The homeowner chose pressure treated pine over cedar, which is the right call on a run this long. The material cost
difference across 250 feet is substantial, and treated pine handles ground contact and moisture better than untreated
wood without the premium cedar carries.

Scope and Deliverables

Two to three labor days, start to finish, with the crew handling every stage:
• Site prep and disposal of debris from the work area
• 8 ft galvanized steel posts, 2 3/8 in. diameter and 16 gauge, set below grade
• Quikrete fast-setting concrete poured at every post
• 2x3x8 pressure treated #2 rails run across the full 250 feet
• 1x5.5 pressure treated pickets installed side by side, 6 ft tall, no gaps
• 2x6x8 pressure treated baseboard along the base of the entire run
• Line pulled and checked for straightness across the full length before pickets went up.

Timeline and Quality

Day one covered clearing the line and setting all the steel posts in concrete. Once the concrete had set, the crew
framed and hung 250 feet of pickets and finished the baseboard. Two to three labor days total, which is fast for this
length — the absence of gates and grade changes kept it moving.
811 was called before any post hole was dug, so public utility lines were located and marked in advance. On a 250-
foot run crossing an open lot that step is not optional.

Outcome and Benefits

The finished pressure treated fence in Venus, TX encloses the property on every side with a consistent 6 ft height and
a clean, straight top line across the full 250 feet. It was left natural rather than stained — which is deliberate.
Fresh pressure treated lumber holds mill moisture and will not take stain properly until it has dried out. We tell every
customer the same thing: give it about six months of Texas weather, test a board by sprinkling water on it, and stain
once the water soaks in instead of beading up. Staining too early traps moisture and the finish peels within a season.
Every fence we install carries a 2-year labor warranty and a 30-day material warranty. In dry weather, water around
the posts — especially in the black clay soil common south of the Metroplex — to keep the ground from shrinking
away from the concrete.
