About this project

Project Overview

This cedar fence with trim in Arlington, TX replaced the entire perimeter of a large residential lot — 297 linear feet
across four runs, with the old fence torn out and hauled away first. It is one of the biggest single-property cedar jobs
we have completed in Tarrant County.
Most of the run stands at 6 feet. A 40-foot stretch was built at 8 feet where the property needed more screening. The
height changes, but the detailing does not — the same cedar, the same stain and the same top trim carry across all
four runs so the yard reads as one continuous enclosure rather than four separate fences.

Scope and Deliverables

Two to three labor days, with the crew handling the job end to end:
• Removal and disposal of the entire old fence, with free haul-off of debris
• 13-gauge metal posts set in concrete, 24 to 30 inches below grade
• 2x4 pressure-treated rails and a 2x6 pressure-treated baseboard along every run
• 1x6 cedar pickets installed side by side across 297 linear feet
• Horizontal cedar trim board capping the top of the run
• Galvanized post caps, Simpson brackets, interchange galvanized nails and screws
• Stain applied to the finished fence

Materials

What separates a cedar fence with trim in Arlington, TX from a standard privacy fence is the horizontal cap board
that runs along the top. It hides the picket ends, gives the fence a finished top line instead of a row of exposed cuts,
and shields the end grain — which is where water gets into a picket and starts the splitting.
Underneath, the structure is the same one we build on every cedar job: 13-gauge metal posts set in concrete rather
than wood posts, pressure-treated rails, and a treated baseboard keeping the cedar off the ground. On a 297-foot run
that consistency matters more than usual, because a single weak post shows up as a visible sag across a long line.

Timeline and Quality

Day one was demolition and post setting — the old fence out, the metal posts in concrete. Once the concrete had set,
the crew framed the runs, hung the pickets, added the baseboard and trim, and finished with stain. Two to three
labor days for the full perimeter.
811 was called before any digging so public utility lines were located and marked in advance.

Outcome and Benefits

The finished cedar fence with trim in Arlington, TX encloses the property on all sides with a clean, level top line and a
rich stained finish. Mature trees sit right against the fence line in two places, and the runs were built around them
rather than cutting them back.
Every fence we install carries a 2-year labor warranty and a 30-day material warranty. Cedar is a natural product, so
expect some checking and colour variation as it settles — and in dry spells, water around the posts. Black clay soil
pulls away from concrete when it has not rained, and that is what loosens posts on a long run.
