About this project

Project Overview

A&O Texas Solutions is based in Arlington at 7407 Commercial Blvd E and builds throughout Tarrant, Dallas,
Johnson and Ellis Counties. If your fence is leaning, the posts are almost always the reason — and that is the one
part you cannot fix from the outside

Building a fence

On a normal run you dig where the fence goes. On a wall you cannot — the posts have to be set behind or through
the structure without disturbing the stonework holding the grade back, and the fence line has to follow the top of the
wall rather than the ground.
It also changes the finished height. Eight feet of cedar sitting on a two-to-three-foot stone base gives the property
considerably more screening than eight feet would on flat ground, which is the point on a lot where the neighbouring
houses sit above you.

Scope and Deliverables

● 70 linear feet of 6 ft side by side cedar, replacing a fence that had begun to collapse
● Before and after photographed the same afternoon, roughly four hours apart
● Old fence demolished and hauled away — nothing reused
● 13-gauge metal posts set 24–30 inches deep in concrete
● Pressure-treated 2x6 baseboard at grade
● Medium brown pre-dip stain applied to every picket before installation
● Single-run replacement: the failing section only, with the sound adjacent run left in place
● No gates

Materials

A cedar fence in Plano, TX faces the same black clay soil as the rest of the Metroplex, which is why the posts are 13-
gauge metal set in concrete rather than wood. Above them, cedar rails carry the pickets, a 2x6 cedar cap closes the
top of every section and a 1x4 trim frames it.
The stain is applied by pre-dip rather than sprayed after assembly, so every board face is coated — including the
overlapped edges that disappear once the boards go up. On a board-on-board fence that matters more than on a
side-by-side, because roughly a third of each picket is hidden behind its neighbour.

Timeline and Quality

Two to three labor days. Day one covered demolition and setting the metal posts in concrete. Once the concrete had
set, the crew framed the sections, hung the pickets board on board, and finished with the baseboard, caps, trim and
gate.
811 was called before any digging so public utility lines were located and marked in advance. There is a gas meter set
into the stone wall along this run, which is exactly the situation that makes locating non-negotiable.

Outcome and Benefits

The finished cedar fence in Plano, TX closes the property with no gaps anywhere in the line and a level cap carried
through all seven sections, sitting cleanly on the stone base it was built over.
The work carries our 2-year labor warranty and a 30-day material warranty. Cedar is a natural product, so expect
some checking and colour movement as it settles. In dry spells, water around the posts — black clay pulls away from
concrete when it has not rained.
