When a homeowner in Plano's Legacy Hills neighborhood reached out to A&O Texas Solutions, their backyard was wide open — a double lot with no fence, no privacy, and a large dog with nowhere to roam safely. They needed a solution that looked great, stood up to North Texas weather, and could cover 180 linear feet of perimeter without breaking the bank.

After an on-site consultation, our team recommended a board-on-board Western Red Cedar privacy fence at 8 feet in height — tall enough to block the view from neighboring two-story homes, and constructed with a classic overlapping board pattern that delivers full privacy while allowing just enough airflow to keep the yard cool. Premium cedar was selected for its natural resistance to rot, insects, and moisture — essential qualities for a DFW backyard that sees brutal summer heat and occasional ice storms.

Our crew began with a concrete post-setting day, digging 10-inch-diameter holes to a depth of 36 inches and setting 4×4 pressure-treated posts on schedule. By day two the rails were up and boarding was underway. The board-on-board pattern requires tight sequencing so the overlaps are even all the way around — a detail that separates professional results from amateur ones. Day three was finishing work: post caps installed, gate hardware set, and a thorough cleanup of the site.

The homeowner also requested a double drive gate on the side yard — a 10-foot wide opening to access a boat trailer. We fabricated the gate frame on-site using 2×6 cedar with a matching board-on-board pattern, heavy-duty strap hinges, and a drop-rod floor latch. It swings smooth and latches clean.

Total installation time: 3 days. The result is a clean, strong 8-foot privacy perimeter that added immediate curb appeal and solved every problem the homeowner brought to us.
