Full demolition and haul-off of the previous fence. 94 linear feet of 8 ft side by side cedar in two runs. Steel posts
throughout, a pressure-treated baseboard along the entire length, three treated rails per section, and a pecan pre-dip
stain on every picket before it reached the property.

A six-foot fence gets two rails. Push the same construction to eight feet and those two rails are suddenly holding an
extra two feet of unsupported picket, which is where cupping and waving start — the picket bows out at the top
because nothing is holding its middle.
Every section on this build carries three 2x4 pressure-treated rails: top, middle and bottom. It is more lumber and
more labor per foot, and it is the difference between an eight-foot fence that still reads flat in year five and one that

Materials

Tarrant County sits on expansive black clay. It swells with rain and shrinks hard through August, and that seasonal
movement is what pushes wood posts out of plumb and rots them at the soil line. A 13-gauge steel post set 24 to 30
inches deep in concrete does not rot and does not twist, and it is the reason a fence like this comes down when the
owner is tired of it rather than when the posts give up.
The pressure-treated 2x6 baseboard does the equivalent job at the bottom of the panel. It absorbs the ground
contact, the string trimmer and the rain splash-back so the cedar pickets never touch soil. Replacing a baseboard
years from now is a morning of work. Replacing a rotted picket line is not.

Timeline and Quality

Demolition, post setting, construction, final adjustment and cleanup were scoped across two to three labor days. The
project carries a two-year labor warranty and a thirty-day material warranty.
Cedar is a natural product and will check, shrink and shift slightly as it seasons. That is the wood behaving normally,
not a defect. One piece of aftercare specific to this soil: in an extended dry spell, black clay pulls away from concrete
footings, so running a soaker hose along the fence line during a drought is the cheapest thing an Arlington
homeowner can do to keep a fence plumb. Re-staining every two to three years holds the pecan tone before it
weathers toward grey.
